Reoccurring Events

Wednesday Open Prayer Space

Need a midweek break to relax and reconnect with God/ess, yourself, and the wider web of life?

Stop in at Sophia Rising (3022 Cherokee Street, 63118) any Wednesday between 11am – 1pm starting October 5th for a quiet prayer space.

From 11-11:30am we will offer a guided prayer practice, varying from week to week, and then from 11:30am – 1:00pm there will be quiet, relaxing music playing and open space for you to engage as needed – maybe lighting a candle, offering a prayer, journaling or drawing, or just sitting in the still and silent love of Sophia.

If your soul is feeling weary, come find rest in Her love.
If your burdens are heavy, come hand them over to Her waiting arms.
She welcomes you.
We welcome you.

Sophia Sings

A Community Song Circle

“Love, I find, is like singing.” – Zora Neale Hurston.

You, just as you are, right now, are a singer! Did you know that? Singing is an inherent part of being human that allows us to express our creativity, connection, and wide range of emotions. All creation is constantly singing, so let’s join in this sacred chorus together!

Sophia Rising is excited to host a monthly community song circle the 4th Sunday of the month from 3-4:30pm at our space on 3022 Cherokee St. All voices are welcome, no prior experience necessary! Each gathering we will be led in song by local song leaders and priestesses of Sophia Rising, teaching simple acapella songs that help us to re-member our connection to one another and the larger web of life, feel and celebrate the wide range of emotions and experiences of being alive, provide encouragement and resource on our journeys, and embody the love that can flow through song.

Upcoming Dates:

November 27, 2022, 3-4:30pm – with Annie Girresch and song leader Lizzie Salsich

Registration not required but recommended, so we have a better sense of how to prepare the space.  Register here.

We want this space to be accessible for everyone, and to honor the time and gifts of our song leaders and host space.

Suggested donation $25 (sliding scale $10-30)

If payment is an obstacle for you joining, please reach out.

Donate now to save your space or you can bring cash or pay by PayPal or Venmo at the event.

Really?  The Rosary?

The priestesses of Sophia Rising grew up praying the rosary, our Catholic roots running deep!  In this Rising of Sophia, we reclaim this potent and ancient prayer practice as a devotion to the Great Goddess, the Mother of All Life.  The language is adjusted to fit a feminist thealogical viewpoint and in resonance with our hearts and the real needs of our lives.  We pray with our hearts, pouring our aches and desires into the lap of Sovereign Mary as we walk with her through the cycles of birth, death and new life.  We were inspired to begin praying the rosary as a group, and in deep connection to the Earth and Great Mother, after reading the book “The Way of the Rose” by Clark Strand and Perdita Finn.  We highly recommend this book as a resource!

Send Erin a note to be added to the Zoom invitation list at erinduffyburke@gmail.com or by clicking the “Mail” button below.  No previous rosary experience necessary.  You can participate as much or as little as you wish.  All genders are welcome.  Rosary circles will always be free of charge.
